Hamburg, 20. April 2026 - From today onwards, all new glasses purchased at eyes + more will come fitted with 1.6 refractive index lenses as standard, making them thinner, lighter, stronger and more attractive. Eyes + more is the first optical chain in Europe to offer these lenses as standard, at no extra cost. This challenges the long-standing industry practice of charging extra for thinner lenses and sets a new standard for the industry.
In most optical stores, glasses come with 1.5 index lenses as standard. Those who need or prefer thinner, more lightweight lenses — typically those with higher prescriptions — are usually required to pay a significant surcharge for 1.6 index lenses or higher. Eyes + More is breaking with this convention. From now on, every customer will receive 1.6 index lenses (or a higher index, depending on their prescription) as part of the fixed, transparent price. This upgrade means that every customer will benefit from glasses with a minimum index of 1.6 at no extra charge.
„Glasses are no longer just a medical device; they are a key part of personality and style. Customers want to see well and look great. By offering thinner, lighter and more aesthetically pleasing lenses as our new standard, we deliver on both fronts without asking customers to pay more. This is how we make our promise, 'Seeing Well, Looking Great', a reality for everyone.Björn Wecker, Managing Director eyes + more DACH
